In 2025. we need to raise $44,580. Over half of that is funds to provide medical care for our flock. With 23 extraordinary chickens in our sanctuary family now, we've got a big year ahead of us. Not only are we preparing for their exams, meds, and implants - but we're also budgeting to create a bigger savings leeway this year.  Part of growing as a responsible sanctuary is ensuring we have a "nest egg" that will be there if donations suddenly stop. For those who don't know, I (Liz) have worked in non-profit animal welfare for over 10 years. Through my experience working at the Ottawa Humane Society, volunteering at cat rescues, being the former board president of VegOttawa, and now working for an international capacity-building organization in animal advocacy - I've learned A LOT about nonprofit best practices.  By fundraising an extra 25% on top of our expenses, we can ensure we're being responsible caregivers and thinking long-term about the health and wellness of our flock family.  Some other items of note are a bigger infrastructure budget than 2024 as we gear up to update two coops. Ezra & Gunta's coop will not only be getting a much-needed electrical update, but will have the roof insulation taken out and replaced. We're also excited to finally refurbish the medical isolation wing, which will become the Veg Club's new coop (as it's placed better for a more expansive run). Then, their old coop will be the perfect place for the medical isolation wing.  Of course, we need to make a bunch of not-so-fun investments. Website fees, email marketing (how you're receiving this!), insurance, and event rentals. All small parts of the pie that create a sanctuary that people know about, and then get to learn about how amazing chickens are. |

P.S. - If you're inspired to start 2025 by making a chickie BFF, you can sponsor a friend here!
All this would not be possible without the generous support of people like you.
You can donate here if you're inspired to make a gift to our sanctuary.
