March Movie Nights

Online, Free

Join us every week this March for a series of Free Online Movie Nights hosted by our sanctuary! We’re heading to the digital big screen via Kosmi (no registration required) to explore the secret lives, intelligence, and heartwarming stories of chickens. It’s a completely free, casual way to connect with fellow animal lovers from the comfort of your couch. To make your viewing experience extra cozy, you can pre-purchase a Movie Night Package from our shop, featuring an adorable chicken stuffie and a selection of vegan snacks—with all proceeds going directly to the care of our residents!

Tuesday, March 3 at 7pm

Join us as we co-watch Maria & The Flock, a beautiful short documentary that tells the story of Maria Goller, an avian researcher with her PhD in biology, who dedicates her life to caring for the most exploited land animal on planet earth: chickens. Through showcasing Maria’s work caring for 150 rescued hens at one of the largest farmed animal sanctuaries in the country, this film illustrates the lasting impacts that the industrialized farming system has on the lucky few who make it out alive, and demonstrates the individuality of a species that is bred and killed by the tens of billions each year.

We acknowledge that we are on the stolen lands of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat peoples. We recognize our responsibility to listen, learn, and fiercely advocate for Indigenous sovereignty and justice. Rooted in Indigenous teachings of kinship, Secondhand Stories strives to honor all beings by creating a sanctuary where chickens are valued as individuals deserving of care, respect, and belonging.
